Another book about books. I sense a theme.
By Abbi Waxman
In The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, the title character, Nina, is perfectly content with planning each day of her 29-year-old existence. Her life comprises working at a bookstore, managing her trivia team and her cat.
Nina seeks refuge from the unpredictability of the outside world in books. For her, fiction is so much more enjoyable and dependable than reality.
Masterful at daily schedules (which are peppered between the book’s chapters) Nina has everything figured out, thank you very much.
Until she doesn’t.
Nina is approached by a lawyer who says her father, whom she never knew, has passed away, and named her as a beneficiary in his will. Along with this unexpected financial windfall comes a cornucopia of family members who invade and disrupt Nina’s life.
Add in a handsome Trivia Club Captain named Tom, and Nina finds herself reconsidering her expectations and re-ordering her well-ordered life.
I love diving into different genres of titles, depending on my mood. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is a rom-com with a book focus. It is a delightful blend of literary and laugh-out-loud funny. It introduced me to author Abbi Waxman, and her ability to craft a relatable, humorous and charming story. I will be reading more of her books.
